The defamation lawsuit that Stormy Daniels filed against President Donald Trump has failed, and the loss is really going to cost her.
The suit filed by Daniels and her attorney Michael Avenatti was in response to Trump tweeting that she had lied about being physically threatened after going public about her sexual history with Trump.
Ultimately the judge dismissed the lawsuit stating:
“The Court agrees with Mr. Trump’s argument because the tweet in question constitutes ‘rhetorical hyperbole’ normally associated with politics and public discourse in the United States. The First Amendment protects this type of rhetorical statement.”
It was quickly ruled that Trump’s legal fees would be paid by Daniels, but at the time an amount was not given. It has now been ruled that Daniels will be forced to pay out $293,000 to Trump’s legal team as well as an additional sanctioned $1,000.
Daniels had already started to back away from the defamation suit saying that she never wanted to pursue it to begin with.
She shared with the Daily Beast:
“Michael has been a great advocate in many ways. I’m tremendously grateful to him for aggressively representing me in my fight to regain my voice. But in other ways Michael has not treated me with the respect and deference an attorney should show to a client. He has spoken on my behalf without my approval. He filed a defamation case against Donald Trump against my wishes.”
However, Avenatti doesn’t see Daniels paying out anything at all. He claims that they will win a separate outstanding lawsuit regarding a nondisclosure agreement.
“Only @realDonaldTrump would celebrate a “win” at the end of the first quarter. Stormy will never pay a dime because Trump and his purse puppy Cohen owe my client in excess of $1,500,000 in the NDA case. Seeing as he isn’t good at math, that’s over $1,200,000 to my client. #Basta”
The NDA case as not been ruled on, but it doesn’t look like Daniels can afford another loss.
